5 Things You’ll Want to Know When Starting Your Own Business

Starting your own business is never easy, and honestly, entrepreneurship can be so taxing sometimes.

When I started my first company, I didn't have a plan. I learned as I went along.

But often I felt alone. So I sought the advice, support and mentorship from other female founders.

And now I get the honor of passing along the lessons I learned, so that you can learn from them as well.

When I started Dear FoundHer... and Lindsay Pinchuk Marketing and Consulting, the goal was simple:

to help other female founders build their businesses and to succeed.

Last week on the Dear FoundHer... podcast, I shared 16 tips for anyone starting their own business.

Here are five of them...

Stay par for the course....don't get distracted.

Focus on you, your own business and achieving the results you set out to achieve---NOT the noise going on around you. You can and should follow your competition, but don't get hung up on what they're doing.

FAIL.

You cannot succeed unless you fail. You cannot come out of the gate and have everything you touch turn to gold. If you want to grow and scale and move forward, you have to experience some failures along the way.

These are the lessons you will learn from and at the end of the day you will be better for it.

Know when to pivot.

If an idea you had is tanking, change directions and move on. As a founder and business owner you have to own up to when things are not going right and you have to be the captain of the ship, changing course when necessary.

Take one step at a time.

Try to accomplish one thing per day to move your business forward. This is something I tell everyone, and on "Dear FoundHer..." my friend

Rachel Gillman Rischall brought this up as well.

Even if it is something simple like ordering supplies—one thing a day.

Remember why you started.

Your WHY is your north star. It is what guides every decision you made iny our business....and it should continue to do so years down the road.

Whenever you get lost, simply go back to your "WHY" and you will remember the reason you're here in the first place .

While there really is no blueprint for founding, growing or selling a business, I do hope that these pieces of advice give you a lot to think about as you grow your own business. For 12+ more pieces of advice where these came from, make sure you listen to Episode 154 of Dear FoundHer... wherever you podcast.
