5 Ways Podcasting Can Transform Your Business

I didn’t start Dear FoundHer… to make money from the podcast.  Now…hear me out….

I didn’t start Dear FoundHer… to make money DIRECTLY from the podcast.  But I did start Dear FoundHer… to share my knowledge, my experiences as a female founder and that of others.  When you start a podcast, what happens is you gain trust in your community, you build your authoritative voice in your space, you start to reach more people and in turn—you can utilize all of this to grow your bottom line.

Dear FoundHer… is truly the most fulfilling aspect of my work life post-acquisition. Besides the growth In just a few short months it has landed in the top 5% of podcasts globally and #55 on the entrepreneurship chart this summer. We are growing every day.

Dear FoundHer… has directly given me three coaching clients and two large enterprise consulting clients. So while I’m not necessarily getting paid from ads on the podcast—I’m getting paid much more from the contracts that have come from my listeners.  (Ad rates on podcasts require you to have a listening community of millions in order to make money directly from ads.)

Additionally, Dear FoundHer… has connected me to women (and men) I never would have reached without the authority the podcast brings. (Helloooo Peloton’s Jenn Sherman, Dance Moms’ Christi Lukasiak, Bravo Top Chef’s Adrienne Cheatham, Scary Mommy’s Jill Smokler, and serial entrepreneur, Spencer Rascoff….just to name a few.) AND, not only have I been connected to people on my own podcast…but thanks to a podcast tour from @scoutsagency I landed interviews with Bachelor Nation’s Jade Roper and Carly Wadell, Christi Lukasiak, Alena Conley, Adam Contos, journalist, Sonni Batta, and MANY more.  AND as you will hear on Dear FoundHer… next week with guest Kim Rittberg, she and I connected because we were BOTH guests on @wegottatalkwithsonni.

Do you see how powerful the podcast ecosystem can be?  This goes for BOTH hosting and guesting on podcasts.

Whether you have a podcast already, want to start a podcast, guest on podcasts or simply listen to them, podcasts can change your business and bottom line in ways you never thought possible.

  1. Podcasts are a powerful networking tool. When you have a podcast you all of a sudden have a vehicle to reach out to others in your space for an interview. Do you know of any other medium that allows you to talk to someone you admire greatly for 45-60 minutes in one sitting?

  2. You can grow your community through podcasting. Podcasting puts you in front of new people who are likely to follow and engage with you. When you have a guest on your show, often they share it with their own community. And when you are a guest on a podcast, your story is all of a sudden shared with the listeners of that show. Often time when I hear a podcast with a great guest, I start to follow that person too. You know what I always say: Your community is your #1 business asset.

  3. Showcase your thought leadership. Whether you're a host or a guest, podcasts allow you to share your story, your knowledge, your experiences and your lessons for upwards of 30-45 minutes. No other form of publicity allows you to captivate an audience for this amount of time. As a guest, your information and call-to-action is often put in the show notes, providing yet another touch point for new people to connect with you.

  4. Grow your other platforms—email, social media and web traffic. Again, whether you are a host or a guest, make sure that you share a good call-to-action in order to grow your other platforms (ie. follow me on Instagram, Sign up for my newsletter, etc..) This leads to direct, actionable and tangible community growth beyond the exposure the podcast provides.

  5. Learn something new directly from the best experts out there. Whether you hear it directly as a host or a guest, OR you simply consume it from another show, podcasts provide some of the best information and knowledge in the universe when it comes to business and bottom line growth. Do you want to know some of my favorite podcasts?

Regardless of how you look each of these—they all ultimately add to the one metric you care most about as a business owner:  your bottom line.

There is no other medium out there that allows you to showcase your story and expertise, or capture someone else’s for an average of 30-45 minutes with every episode.  As you’ll hear on today’s episode of Dear FoundHer…, it’s not too late to hop on the podcasting train.
